Repertoire

One of the most common mistakes concerning duos is that their literature is believed to be limited. This misconception is fuelled by the fact that music shops have only a fraction of the duo repertoire on offer. Most of the "buried" literature is still to be found in libraries and private collections. Monika Egri and Attila Pertis have managed to unearth this often surprising material since they acquired their diplomas in 1995.
"The work of the Egri-Pertis duo could even be seen as a mission because they make their audience rediscover not only the composition but perhaps also the composers, too. However, their art cannot be narrowed down by this kind of ideology; they are not doing this mainly for scientific or intellectual purposes, rather, they are simply able to use some of their interest and talent for expanding the repertoire."

(Katalin Fittler - Sztereó, March 2001)
Duet
The list of works they have learned to date consists of over 200 pieces by ca. 100 composers, from Händel to the contemporary music, and this list is being expanded all the time. They often play the works of Schubert, Liszt, Chopin, Brahms, Grieg, Dvorak and Gershwin. In the case of several composers (Mozart, Pleyel, Beethoven, Schumann, etc.) they have mastered all compositions written in their genre.
Concert in Budapest
"So schwungvoll und forsch musiziert, so detailgenau synchronisiert möchte man diese wertvolle Bereicherung des schmalen Repertoires für Klavierduo gerne öfter hören."
(Peter Schlüer - Klassik Heute, February 2000)

The Egri-Pertis Duo is probably the only duo that presently keeps all of Liszt's opera fantasies and all of Thalberg's duet pieces on repertoire.
"In jüngster Zeit bewies das ungarische Klavierduo Egri-Pertis einigen Mut, mit „Opernfantasien, Reminiszenzen und Transkriptionen“ für zwei Klaviere und für Klavier zu vier Händen auf sachdienliche Weise das Liszt-Repertoire aufzuarbeiten."
(Peter Cossé - Neue Musikzeitung, October 1998)

Moreover, it is qualitative, rather than quantitative characteristics which make the duo's repertoire truly special. In addition to basic pieces of duo and duet literature (Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, etc.), they include unknown or unpublished works of classical composers (Mendelssohn, Liszt, Saint-Saëns, Franck), and works of undeservedly neglected and forgotten composers.
Budapest Spring Festival

" As regards the composers and the genre -- and length -- of the pieces, the program is "mixed", which is a merit: with its diversity, it gives a snapshot of an era which was more difficult to imagine based on the written literature."
(Katalin Fittler - Sztereo, June 2000)

At the same time a road was opened towards a new program policy resulting from many years of research.
