Research

Although research has become something of a passion for the Egri & Pertis Duo, this activity was not initiated solely by them. After their first competition victory in conversation with a member of the jury, the matter of the duo repertoire and the pieces and composers still awaiting first showing, was raised. This discussion launched them on the road they are still following today.

During their first attempts at research, they were surprised to find that the
two-piano and piano duet pieces of even popular composers had not been discovered, not mentioning the works of less well known composers (Ignaz Moscheles, Emanuel Chabrier, John Field, etc.). This led them to a systematic work which received valuable assistance from musicologists and libraries in Hungary and abroad.

The Duo is continually complementing their repertoire from the tremendous amount of material (some 5,000 sheets of music) collected throughout the years, offered to the public in the form of concerts and CD recordings.

This way, the public has been able to learn, about the works of Henri Herz, Carl Reinecke, Josef Joachim and Josef Dichler. The performances of Liszt's Grand Concert Piece - reconstructed on the basis of his manuscript -, Mendelssohn's Grand Duo and Schumanns Concertpiece in F major were considered to be especially interesting first performances.

(Rainer Elstner - Wiener Zeitung, 18. June 2002)

"For a true novelty, namely the monumental "Grand Concert Piece after Mendelssohn's Songs without Words", to be played in a reconstructed form interest, assiduous diligence and suitability for scientific work were all needed. This composition, in which Liszt used the technique of transcription as well as paraphrasing, presents the virtuoso pianist from a virtually unknown side. (...) The philological interest of the two pianists passed the test with flying colours through the reconstruction of the damaged manuscript..."

(Katalin Fittler - Sztereó, May 2002)
Analysis
The interpretation of the compositions of Onslow, Pleyel, Thalberg, Dohnányi and Rimsky-Korsakov came as a surprise. Through Hungaroton Classic, a number of first performances (the works of Saint-Saëns, Mendelssohn, Pleyel, Thalberg, Liszt and others) have also been issued as CDs.
